Five Ducks Farm, featured in the March edition of Small Farms, is recovering after being damaged by fire.

The farm at Pomonal on the edge of The Grampians, in Victoria, was hit during raging bushfires in February.

The animals and main infrastructure were saved, but the berries and most of the fruit trees were destroyed.

Owners Anita Evans and Andy Cross are now awaiting insurance assessment before planning their next move (at the time of this edition of Small Farms going to print).

The jam-making business has reopened but roads leading to the area were closed following the Pomonal fire and another bushfire just weeks later north-east of Ararat.

More than 40 houses in the Pomonal region were destroyed by the fire.

Andy and Anita praised the efforts of firefighters to save their buildings and animals.

This was not the first time the property has been damaged by fire. Under previous owners in 2006 all the front paddocks and strawberries and raspberries were burnt.

The animals and main infrastructure were saved, but the berries and most of the fruit trees were destroyed at Five Ducks Farm.
